Woman Reading a Letter
A quiet private moment - a young woman stands attentively reading a letter in the morning light. She is still in her blue nightgown. All colours are secondary to this radiant lapis lazuli blue. Vermeer precisely registered the light effects. Thus he was the first to dare to paint the skin in soft grey, and the shadows on the wall in light blue. Painted by Johannes Vermeer, in c. 1663
