Artist Lee Ufan describes his work as ‘art of the encounter’. He combines natural elements
such as stone and water with materials like steel or glass. ‘I place a heavy natural rock
quietly on a large, industrial steel plate. It is so simple. Yet, the sight of the plate and
rock meeting creates an enigmatic silence … It makes viewers experience and think
on a different dimension’.

Lee interrogates how his sculptures influence the way we look at nature, architecture,
ourselves and each other. In a fast-paced world, his work allows us to stop and experience
our surroundings. In Lee’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands he has recreated several
key works. His iconic sculptures engage in a dialogue with the Rijksmuseum gardens
and the museum architecture.
