Back to the place where Europe first became acquainted with Asia, thanks to the trade routes of the VOC. Back to the time when a city grew into an economic and cultural center: Amsterdam. In the 17th century, Amsterdam was a vibrant city with worldwide overseas connections. Colorful and luxurious goods from Asia had a major impact on life in Amsterdam for the first time; fragrant spices, exotic flowers, porcelain and luxurious fabrics caused a sensation. Porcelain was a first luxury from Asia that became available to a wider audience. In the 16th century it was collected by princes and kings, but in the 17th century, thanks to the VOC, porcelain became available to almost everyone. It was the symbol for Asian luxury products for everyone. The Delft Blue vase that inspired the design of the Amsterdam Collection shows how popular Asian luxury goods became during that time. The design, made from only local raw materials in Delft and completely inspired by Asian porcelain, is a perfect meeting of East and West.
The collaboration between Rituals and the Rijksmuseum led to the creation of the Amsterdam Collection, an extraordinary collection in which the perfume of Dutch tulips and Japanese yuzu is central: fragrant symbols from the period when Amsterdam and the beauty of ancient Asia found each other in a new time. The design is based on an iconic Delft Blue vase, with beautiful illustrations of Asian influences on the changes in Dutch lifestyle, art and decorations during the Golden Age. Tulip
A flower that occurs everywhere in Holland, which is now a national symbol of the Netherlands. But when tulips were first imported from the Ottoman Empire, these beautiful flowers were seen as true luxury. Traveling back to the roots of Rituals itself, in combination with the heritage of Amsterdam, we thought that the tulip could be the perfect main ingredient for our Amsterdam Collection. The tulip is known for its moisturizing and renewing properties. Since the tulip itself only has a very light perfume, we have added exotic flowers to create this beautiful and special fragrance for the Amsterdam Collection. The bouquet of flowers is inspired by the seeds imported from Asia in the 17th century by the European elite to grow in their own gardens and orangeries.
Japanese Yuzu
Originating in the Far East, Yuzu is both a citrus tree and a fruit. It is valued for its healthy nutrients and its soothing effect. Yuzu is extremely rich in antioxidants. It is said to counteract premature aging and stimulate the detoxification process of the skin. The result is hydrated and well-groomed skin.
