Delft Blue
Delft Blue, a traditional Dutch ceramic, originated in the 17th century and reflects the influence of Chinese porcelain. It is now impossible to imagine Dutch households without it. But behind this typically Dutch product lies a global story. The technique of decorating ceramics with tin glaze originally came from the Middle East. It reached the Netherlands at the end of the 16th century thanks to Flemish immigrants. The porcelain examples that inspired the Delft potters were brought from China by the VOC. Later, they also looked a lot at German porcelain. Delft ceramics became so sought-after that they became widespread across Europe.

200 years
For more than 200 years, Delft ceramic was produced in as many as 30 different potteries. Tens of thousands of men and women worked in Delft on a product with a European appeal. A broad stratum of the Dutch population purchased it, though the best was destined for the European elite.
